Coppice regeneration in Gugarq and Hrazdan Forest Enterprises of Hayantar SNCO supported by GIZ IBiS
Integrated Biodiversity Management, South Caucasus (IBiS) programme implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH supports coppice regeneration activities in Gugarq and Hrazdan Forest Enterprises (FE) of “Hayantar” SNCO totally on 200 ha. The field activities will create favorable conditions for better restoration of coppices. The fuel-wood generated during coppice regeneration field measures will be provided tonearby communities․
The National Forest Management Information System (NFMIS) is being practiced in both FEs during the coppicing activities. The NFMIS is an information system used for operational planning as well as management and exchange of information between different involved partners in the forestry sector. Respective information on coppicing sites in Gugarq and Hrazdan FEs and implemented measures is entered and further managed in NFMIS.
The activity includes also human capacity building in coppice management and NFMIS. Representatives of Gugarq, Hrazdan and a number of other FEs of “Hayantar” SNCO will be trained. This will create capacities for further implementation of coppicing measures and use of NFMIS in “Hayantar” SNCO.
In addition, IBiS provided field equipment (8 chainsaws and 2 bush cutters) to Gugarq and Hrazdan FEs to be used during the mentioned coppice regeneration field activities as well as in future for similar activities in the mentioned FEs.
